Migrant Trafficking: Balkan Route (July/August)

Earlier this year Balkan countries took measures to deter migrants from using the âBalkan routeâ to travel to western Europe. Slovenia, Hungary, Macedonia and Bulgaria have erected border fences, and Serbia and Croatia have employed stricter border controls. However, this summary of recent migrant trafficking incidents highlights how in reality the route has not been closed, and the flow of illegal migration remains high due to the prevalence of trafficking.
